SYNE: Graduation Project

SYNE is an interactive kit that explores person-colour synesthesia, a condition where I involuntarily associate colors, shapes, and textures with people I interact with. It challenges neurotypical perception, inviting participants to experience my unique sensory world and rethink how we perceive human connection.

For my graduation capstone project, I sought to bring others into the vibrant and textured world of person-colour synesthesia, a unique neurological condition that shapes how I perceive people. Through this condition, every individual I physically interact with is unconsciously associated with a distinct palette of colors, shapes, and textures—a sensory language that turns human connection into an artistic experience.

The interactive kit I created invites viewers to step into my lens, offering a hands-on exploration of color, form, and texture that mirrors my own synesthetic experiences. By guiding participants through this multisensory journey, my goal was to challenge the neurotypical perspective and encourage a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways our minds perceive and interpret the world.

This project is both a window into my condition and a bridge for empathy and understanding. It is my hope that engaging with this work inspires viewers to reflect on the rich, unseen layers of perception that make each of us uniquely human.
